Trader's Edge: 21.74% Gain in Less Than a Month

On July 9, 2024, we opened a small $1000 account at Schwab to trade the Puts and Calls we highlighted in our Trader’s Edge. The reason we opened such a small account was two-fold. (1) We knew that some of the potential trades, because of the high price of the underlying stock, would risk too much capital to be invested and thus not executable, and (2) we wanted to demonstrate that even a small account could have positive results.
As of July 31, 2024, less than one month, the value of the account closed at 1,217.45, up 21.74%. The maximum invested during that time was $727.64 for a return of 29.9% and the average invested during that time was $276.84 for a return of 78.5%.
We had 12 trades of which 8 were positive or 67% success rate. Our most disappointing trades were our Micron Technology (MU) Puts which were stopped out at down -30% because of our sell discipline but ultimately would have been a solid winner. Our most successful trades were our Schwab (SCHW) Calls up 72.3%, our Tesla (TSLA) Puts up 44.8% and our Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) up 43.4%.
Most of our trades were spread out over multiple days. The average size of our trades was $200.94.
